Effective change
Van der Steen: ‘More and more people working in the built environment understand that we have to work radically differently if we want to stay within the 1.5 degrees of Paris. This also requires us to look with different eyes, at the sector, at society, and at ourselves. Pilots and experiments abound, but what breaks through on a large scale? With Spinwaves Lab, we hope to create an environment in which trailblazers can achieve breakthroughs together. Firstly, by gaining a better understanding together of how the system (dis-)functions and thus making the change initiatives we are working on more effective. But it also requires vulnerability; what role is expected of you? In Spinwaves Lab, change agents will discover, design and realize that together.’
Unique combination of Biomimicry and Theory U
Serena Scholte and Simoon Fransen are the founders of Spinwaves Lab. They have years of experience in supporting change agents, and now create a unique setting with two practical models: Theory U and Biomimicry. Scholte: "With Biomimicry, we are diving into nature's 3.8 billion year accumulated database to design 100% sustainable solutions for both organizational and technical issues. It takes more than a good concept to make a substantial system change. Fransen: "Theory U is a powerful framework for tackling problems not only where they manifest themselves, but also in search of the cause. This is how you create fundamental solutions. Increasing impact does not directly mean taking more action, it is about learning to see which actions deserve your attention. That also requires slowing down and starting to see what is needed.
For whom
We are there for the pioneers who are working on a more sustainable built environment and want to increase their impact. They work in energy transition, climate challenges or sustainability projects that are complex in the spatial domain. You can join as an individual or with your team. Spinwaves Lab is an innovation lab to achieve a breakthrough together.
Spinwaves Lab is a multi-year initiative. We will start in 2022 with a first round, with in our minds already the continuation of a new lab in 2023. Together we will work towards a strong story of beautiful breakthroughs.
