Brazil has large coast areas with great potential for offshore wind. High wind speeds make offshore wind energy very interesting. On the other hand, the local ocean is deep, which makes traditional bottom-fixed solutions impossible. This provides opportunities for floating offshore wind solutions.
The Dutch Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro has investigated the potential for offshore wind energy in Brazil. It also investigated where the opportunities lie for Dutch companies in the offshore wind sector. The report shows, for example, that the potential for offshore wind energy in Brazil is 10 times greater compared to the Netherlands and that the first offshore wind projects are already under development. The Consulate in Rio de Janeiro will present the report during the webinar “Prospects and Potential of the Offshore Wind Industry in Brazil” on Tuesday 13 April at 15:00 (UTC +2).
During this event, the report will be presented and experts from Brazilian government agencies will speak about the offshore wind plans in Brazil. IBAMA (environmental institute of the federal government), EPE (energy research institute) and the Ministry of Mines and Energy will be speaking. Dutch companies with offices in Brazil also have their say.
